I am one of the lucky ones. I have the opportunity to do what I love. Paint. I have an enviable support network of wonderful friends and family who unceasingly believe in my talent and are always there for me. I am doing what I love, and more importantly others like what I do.
I started my art career in 4th grade when I had art classes with Hugo Rodriguez at Gallery 4 in Detroit, Michigan. My grandfather painted portraits of local politicians and ultimately I studied Art Education at Michigan State University. Art has always been a part of my life. I hadn’t picked up a paintbrush since college, then one day about eight years ago I started to paint again.
I was a partner in Gallery 14, in Vero Beach, Florida for several years. During that time I had the opportunity to meet talented artists and become involved in a fast growing local artistic culture.
I have worked with interior decorators painting murals on walls, and doing commissions relative to specific design plans.
I was selected to be the sole artist for a restaurant project in Vero Beach called Scoozi. I was commissioned for 12 paintings that presently hang there representing the owners unique vision for his restaurant.
My paintings hang in private homes and businesses across the United States. My paintings are shown as part of the Art in Public Places in Vero Beach, and they are included on the new Art District’s banners around town.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I paint with a sense of urgency and speed. I often paint several large paintings at once, typically starting another if only to use up my paint. I generally have a direction that I want to take in the composition and colors of the painting, but occasionally it takes off in a direction not planned and I simply let the discovering process lead me.
The way the paint flows on the canvas, the new discoveries with each painting and the emotions evoked by different color combinations keep me painting with passion. My hope is that viewers of my work enjoy the end result as much as I enjoy the creative process.
CURRENT OCCUPATION: Contemporary studio painter
FAVORITE MEDIA: Acrylic, mixed media, collage, and oil
WORDS OF INSPIRATION:
“Creativity takes courage.” Henri Matisse
“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” Edgar Degas
